About MobilityLane

Why MobilityLane Exists

When someone you love is struggling to get around their own home safely, you do not have time to wade through vague product descriptions, misleading reviews, and insurance jargon. You need clear, honest answers from someone who has been where you are.

MobilityLane was built out of that exact frustration. After 18+ years as a caregiver for family members living with chronic illness and mobility challenges, including rheumatoid arthritis, I have spent more hours than I can count researching walkers, wheelchairs, ramp configurations, grab bar placements, insurance coverage, and every other detail that goes into helping someone maintain their independence. I started this site because the resource I needed did not exist: an independent, no-nonsense guide to mobility equipment and home accessibility written by someone who actually understands what caregivers and their loved ones go through.

Our Credentials

MobilityLane is not a faceless content mill. Here is what stands behind the information on this site:

  • 18+ years of hands-on caregiving experience supporting family members with chronic illness and progressive mobility limitations. I have lived the late-night research sessions, the insurance phone calls, the equipment trial and error, and the home modification projects.
  • Medical training in mobility recovery including helping people recover mobility and improve quality of life after illness, injury, and the effects of chronic conditions.
  • Real-world product knowledge earned through years of evaluating, purchasing, and using mobility equipment for people I care about, not just reading spec sheets.
  • Ongoing research into clinical literature, physical therapy best practices, DME supplier standards, and Medicare/Medicaid/VA program changes to keep our guides accurate and current.

I started this site because watching a family member struggle with rheumatoid arthritis taught me that the right equipment, chosen at the right time, can be the difference between isolation and independence. That lesson drives every guide and review we publish.

What We Cover

MobilityLane covers the full range of topics that caregivers and people with mobility challenges actually need:

  • Equipment reviews and comparisons: Walkers, rollators, canes, mobility scooters, power wheelchairs, grab bars, ramps, and stairlifts. We test claims against real-world use and tell you what actually matters.
  • Funding and insurance guides: Medicare coverage, Medicaid waivers, VA benefits, nonprofit programs, and state assistance. We break down the process step by step so you know exactly what to expect.
  • Condition-specific guides: Equipment recommendations tailored to specific conditions like Parkinson's disease, hip replacement recovery, arthritis, and stroke rehabilitation, because a generic "best walker" list does not help someone with freezing of gait.
  • Home accessibility: Room-by-room modification guides, ADA ramp requirements, bathroom safety, and aging-in-place planning.
  • Caregiver resources: Fall prevention, safe transfer techniques, and practical guidance for the people doing the daily work of supporting someone's mobility.

Our Standards

Editorial Independence

No manufacturer, retailer, or brand has editorial influence over our content. We are independently owned and operated. Our reviews, ratings, and recommendations are based on hands-on experience, published clinical evidence, user feedback, and professional best practices. Nobody pays for a favorable review.

How We Make Money

MobilityLane participates in affiliate programs, including Amazon Associates. When you purchase a product through one of our links, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you. This is how we keep the site running without paywalls or sponsored content.

Our affiliate relationships never influence our recommendations. We will never recommend a product just because it pays a higher commission. If a product is not good enough for my own family, it does not make it onto this site. Our affiliate relationships are fully disclosed on every page that contains affiliate links, and we maintain a complete affiliate disclosure page explaining how these relationships work.

Our Editorial Process

  1. Research: We review manufacturer specifications, published user reviews across multiple platforms, clinical literature, and professional therapy recommendations.
  2. Real-world validation: Recommendations are grounded in actual caregiving experience and feedback from users, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
  3. Clear writing: Content is written in plain language at a reading level that serves our diverse audience, from first-time caregivers to experienced therapists.
  4. Fact-checking: Specifications, prices, coverage details, and program requirements are verified against primary sources before publication.
  5. Regular updates: Published content is reviewed and updated when products change, prices shift, or programs are modified. We date-stamp everything so you know how current the information is.

Accessibility Commitment

A site about mobility and accessibility should itself be accessible. MobilityLane meets WCAG 2.1 AA standards, including full keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility, and sufficient color contrast. For details, see our accessibility statement.
