How This Tool Works
This cost estimator uses typical retail pricing and standard insurance coverage rules to provide a ballpark estimate for the mobility equipment you need. It factors in your equipment type, specific needs, insurance coverage, and prescription status to calculate three key numbers: the retail price range, estimated insurance coverage, and your likely out-of-pocket cost.
The estimates are based on 2026 pricing data and current Medicare, Medicaid, and VA benefit structures. Actual costs depend on the specific product, supplier, your insurance plan details, and your location.
Understanding Your Estimate
Retail price range reflects typical market prices for new equipment in your selected category. Prices vary by brand, features, and supplier.
Insurance coverage is estimated based on standard coverage rules. Medicare Part B typically covers 80% of the approved amount (which may be lower than retail) after your $257 deductible. VA benefits often cover 100%. Medicaid and private insurance vary significantly.
Out-of-pocket cost is the estimated difference between the retail price and your insurance coverage. This can often be reduced further through Medigap policies, refurbished equipment, nonprofit programs, or state assistive technology loans.
